The benefits of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) are still being studied. Recent research, however, indicates that men and women who receive this treatment have 30 to 40 percent more hair growth in areas where PRP therapy is given. Hair density increases and hair will be thicker after these types of treatments but it takes about three months to see improvements.
The treatment involves the collection of your blood (approximately 11m.-22ml). The blood is spun down in a centrifuge and the PRP is injected into the necessary areas. While many injections are given, there is no recovery time after the injection. We recommend not washing the skin for 24 hours after the procedure and avoiding heavy exercise the evening of the treatment.
Contraindications: Skin cancer in the treatment area, systemic cancer, undergoing chemotherapy, steroid therapy, communicable diseases, blood disorders and platelet abnormalities, anticoagulation therapy.
Mild to moderate swelling of the treated area that lasts for 12–24 hours. Cold compresses can help reduce swelling. You may notice a tingling sensation when the cells are being activated. In rare cases, skin infection, bruising or injection site reaction may occur which is easily treated with antibiotics or anti-inflammatory treatments.
How many treatments are needed?
Therapy begins with the active phase consisting of three separate treatments over 12 to 18 weeks. A fourth booster treatment will be scheduled after the active phase. Maintenance treatments are recommended every four to six months.
